A FINISH THAT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME
Handstone finishing process uses solar heat and co-generation of electricity to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions emitted. We recycle our solvents to reduce the waste that is sent to MOE certified processors, giving it a second use/life. The start of a great finish is the preparation. We painstakingly sand and inspect the raw wood with flat beam non-glare inspection lights. These allow us to catch any imperfections or indents before the colour application. In our multi-step dye and stain process, Handstone sprays deep penetrating NGR dye on the raw wood, then stain is sprayed on and carefully hand wiped to create an even colour tone. We are very passionate about our colours and their quality. It is evident in the finish and defines how the Handstone colour difference is achieved with clear, vibrant colour tones. Before applying the sealer we match and shade the colour to master boards. The next step is applying the sealer which is post catalyzed. It takes a great deal of time and skill to correctly hand sand the sealer without burning the edges. After the sealer is sanded we apply a post catalyzed varnish. This means the craftsmen add a catalyst to the conversion varnish which kicks off a cross-linking reaction and creates a powerful and tightly blended molecular binding build to the finish. All this is what makes our finish durable and chemical-resistant. In our final steps we inspect and polish the coating to a brilliant luster.
THE SECRET TO A FABULOUS FINISH
The finish of your Handstone furniture is what gives it a rich, alluring presence. This is achieved through a three-step dye-and-stain colour application process. Once completed, we apply a post-catalyzed sealer and then top coat it with a post-catalyzed conversion varnish
A better way to finish.
We use a post-catalyzed conversion varnish because it provides the consumer with greater value. Here’s how:
It’s healthier because it contains less formaldehyde than lacquers.
It’s more durable because it’s more moisture-and chemical-resistant.
It resists chipping much better.
Unbeatable durability when exposed to many solvents, household products, oils and food items.
What does post-catalyzed mean?
It means a cross-linker is added to the conversion varnish as it gets applied. This helps to cure the finish and make it more durable and chemical-resistant.
